The wisdom traditions have a long history of respecting inanimate objects as more than resources to be exploited and then discarded. Similarly, museums teach that we can cherish objects for their expressiveness, beauty, and utility. Enjoy these reflections about why museums are ideal places for spiritual practice, plus this special download about visio divina at the Petterson Museum of Intercultural Art in Claremont, California.
Practices

The impact of the Nineteenth Amendment can hardly be measured. It fully enfranchised women whose fathers and brothers and husbands could already vote. It countenanced women's desire to practice democracy beyond the domestic sphere. It gave women the right to be represented and to represent themselves, opening opportunities for female leadership at all levels.

Usually we try to show a pure, kind, intelligent face to the world. But, unknowingly, we push away qualities that don't fit the ideal. They take on a life of their own, known in psychology as the shadow. This e-course helps you to form a conscious relationship with the shadow so that it doesn't erupt in self-destructive ways.  Read more and subscribe:

Buddhist monks who save the forest by ordaining the trees. Children who watch the subtle ways that we give consideration to others. A girl who expresses her awe over the miracle of wildflowers. These themes and more express the spiritual path of reverence through the medium of stories.
A Thought to Carry with You

Sometimes, amid our efforts to live compassionately and make the world more humane, we need to be reminded to be astonished that anything at all exists. This prayer of Mechthild of Magdeburg, Germany (1212 - 1280) praises the splendor of it all:

"O chosen sun, O perfect moon, O fathomless well,
O unattainable height, O clearness beyond measure,
O wisdom without end, O mercy without limit,
O strength beyond resistance, O crown of all majesty,
The humblest you created sings your praise."

This week, compose a line or two a day that taps into sheer wonder and gratitude. Notice how this practice enhances your energy for the things that matter to you.
